Robs Genealogy
John Cullen GRAYSON John C. Grayson served as a Justice of the Peace/Judge Provost in Madison County from at least 1825 through at least 1847 1.
In 1840 his household consisted of three males (one between 20 & 30, one between 10 & 15, and the other under 5), three females (two between 30 & 40, one of which was probably his wife, and one under 5, probably his daughter Nancy R.). He also had two male slaves (between 36 & 55 years old) and two female slaves (one betwen 55 & 100 years old and the other between 24 & 36 years old). By 1840 some of his children (like Mary, who married Bryant in 1815) had already departed the household 2. According to the census, four of the male members of the household (not including the slaves), were engaged in farming. This suggests that at least one, and possibly both of the male members of the household between 20 and 30 years old were hired farm hands vice actual family members; this might also have been the case for the 30-40 year old female residing with the family. He was born on 1 April 1799 at Montgomery County, Virginia. He was the son of John Clan GRAYSON and Sarah "Sally" CARTER. John Cullen GRAYSON married Nancy GLOVER on 31 December 1832 at Madison County, Alabama. John Cullen GRAYSON died on 19 July 1849 at Madison County, Alabama, at age 50.
