John Chappell PRICE The 1860 Census shows John C. Price residing in Lowndes County, Mississippi. All of his children, however, were born in Alabama, including Laura in 1859, suggesting that the family had only recently moved to Mississippi when the census was taken on July 7, 1860. John listed his occupation as a farmer and valued his real estate at $10,000 and his personal estate at $15,000 -- quite a healthy sum of money for that time.
