M, b. 12 October 1855 or 13 October 1855, d. 23 August 1941
| Birth* | 12 October 1855 or 13 October 1855, According to church records, his baptism took place a day after his birth in Juarez, Mexico. Although his place of birth is not given, the short duration of time between his birth and baptism suggests that he was born in Juarez or its immediate proximity. Although his death certificate indicates that he was born in Dona Ana, New Mexico, on 12 October 1856, the year must have actually been 1855 in order for baptism to have taken place on 14 October 1855. His death certificate also indicates that he was born in Dona Ana, however, given that his baptism took place in Juarez and his father claims in the 1870 census that he was born in Mexico, Juarez seems his more likely place of birth.4,2,5 |
| Baptism | 14 October 1855, Nuestra Senora De Guadalupe, Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico2 |
| Marriage* | 28 February 1881, Pilar's wife is shown as "Petra" in the 1910 census, although in the 1900 census it is "Octavious" and in the 1920 census it is "Otabinia." Pilar and "Petra" claim in the 1910 census to have been married for 27 years, which clearly could not be the case if the 1900 census shows him married to "Octavious." The fact that he married "Octaviana" about 27 years earlier (actually they were married in 1881, which is 29 years earlier) and the similarity of the names "Octaviana," "Octavious" and "Otabinia," suggests that "Petra" was probably really "Octaviana" and that the census taker horribly butchered her name. The census takers and/or the surveyed population in Dona Ana County during the early 1900's seem to have been very careless, making numerous errors in both the spelling of names and the listing of ages., Principal=Octaviana Lopez3,6,7,8 |
| Death* | 23 August 1941, According to his death certificate, he died of Illio Colitis (ileocolitis), which is an inflammation of the ileum and colon, and old age at 01:20 AM on 23 August, 1941. The certificate indicates that the duration of his ailment was three days.4,9 |
| Note* | In the 1910 census Pilar claims to have immigrated to the United States in 1860, which would explain the family's absence in the 1850 census. Also, in the 1920 census he indicated that he could not speak English.7,8 |
| Occupation* | Pilar was seventeen years old, living at home, and working as a laborer in 1870. He was 25 years old, living at home and working as a laborer in 1880. In 1910 he is shown as a laborer doing "odd jobs," but in 1920 he is shown as a farmer doing general farm work. On his death certificate he listed his usual occupation as farmer. His death certificate also indicates that he was a veteran of a war. The name of the war is barely legible, but it could be "Ap Indian" for the Apache Indian Wars?5,10,6,7,8,4 |
